This view of the roof of this huge structure shows the false roof built above the 20 foot thick reinforced concrete main roof.  Even after many Allied bombing missions it was only towards the end of the war that direct hits by British "tall-boy" bombs finally knocked one or two holes all the way through to an actual sub pen.  Even then there was reportedly little damage done at water level.  Patrick and Keith were honored when the Base Commander took them inside to show them where one gaping hole still exists from this bombing.  As this massive structure is not easily removed or remodeled, the French Navy finds creative ways to use this monstrous structure.
