16. Harvey D. (or B.) WHEELER (90) (32)(33) (91) was born in 1805 in NY.(32) (Probably born in Herkimer Co., NY.) He died in 1878 in Marion Co., IN. Apparently his middle initial appears to be different in different documents although "D." appears most frequently in census records; he is listed A.G. Wheeler's History of the Wheeler Family as "Harvey B. Wheeler" and as #17324.
He appeared with his family in the 1810 census as "male under 10" in Columbus twp., Chenango Co., NY. (age abt 5 years)
He appeared with his family in the 1820 census as "male 10-16" in Franklin twp., Clermont Co., OH. (age abt 15 years)
In the 1830 census he no longer listed in his parents home but is found in Clermont Co., OH. (age abt 25 years)
On 20 Oct 1835 he purchased 68.12 acres in Marion Co., IN (Twsp. Descrip. E 1/2,NE 1/4, sec.5)
In the 1840 census he is listed as head of household in Lawrence twp., Marion Co., IN. (age abt 35 years) There area 8 members of this family indicated as follows: 1 m(30-40) (Harvey), 1 m(10-15), 1 m(5-10), 1 m(0-5); 1 f(60-70), 2 f(20-30), 1 f(5-10)
In the 1850 census he is still in Marion Co., IN, listed as "Farmer," age 45 years, with wife and 5 children (Augustus, Louisa, Silas, Jason & Lucy)
In the 1860 census he is still in Marion Co., IN, listed as "Farmer," age 54, with wife and 4 children (Augustus & Louisa are no longer in the home; listed are Silas, Jason, Lucy & William). Also listed in the household are Lucy Hastings, age 22, "Domestic," b. IN, and Frank Hastings, age 20, "Farm Laborer," b. IN. According to Richard O. Johnson, "These last two are the children of Mary Ann (Wheeler) Hastings, Harvey's sister and my 3rd great-grandmother. Mary Ann had died a few years before, and her husband John Hastings had "disappeared"; their several children are located various places in this 1860 census, some with the oldest brother, my ancestor, Oliver P. Hastings, and his new wife; these two with 'Uncle Harvey.'"
In the 1870 census he is still in Marion Co., IN, listed as "Farmer," age 65. In addition to himself, 5 other individuals with the Wheeler last name are listed in the household. They are: Nancy, age 26, "Keeping House;" Laura, age 4; Elmore (or Elmer) age 2; William H., age 20, "Farm Lb.;" and Elizabeth, age 20, "Housekeeping." It is unknown at this time (7/99) whether Nancy is a new young wife and he sired 2 more children, or, more likely, he took in a young relative, possibly a son's widow, with her children. William could very well be Harvey's youngest son who now has a wife, Elizabeth, and they are living with the father. He was married to Susan or Susanna _______?.

17. Susan or Susanna _______? (32)(35) (36) was born about 1805. (Based on census data that indicates that she was the same age as her husband.) No death record could be found for her in Marion Co., IN. Children were:

Listed below this William is an Elizabeth Wheeler, age 20, "Housekeeping," which might indicate that William had married Elizabeth and they were staying on the family farm.
