1862. Jarvis BALLARD
(192)(81). Bonnie Hubbard has
first name as Jervis or Jarvis, but states that it is more commonly spelled Jarvis.
Further, she provides the following: "Savage says he was a merchant in
Boston in 1670, 'perhaps not a permanent resident.' But he is on the 15 May
1690 list of freemen (i.e. church members) in Boston (NEHGR 3:350). And he is
mentioned in the will of John Joliffe. Samuel Lynde is one of the witnesses
to this will. John Joliffe had married a twice widowed woman named Ann or Anna,
whose first husband had been the wealthy privateersman Thomas Cromwell. Next
she married Robert Knight of Boston, who died 27 June 1655. Their daughter Martha,
born 1 Sept 1653, married Jarvis Ballard, and Martha appears to have been given
the bulk of John Joliffe's estate and is named, with her husband, executor.
These people, in contrast to the majority of our ancestors, were townspeople
- primarily businessmen instead of farmers." (Bonnie Hubbard)
He was married to Martha KNIGHT.
1863.
